For long we have known that Augmented Reality will be the widest adaptation of futuristic technologies in our day-to-day lives. We have been discussing how we can see all the information on our smartphones, in front of our eyes with the help of smart glasses. While driving, the Google maps guides you with on the road digital guidance, when receiving a call all information is just in front of your eyes, eliminating to look at your phone in almost every day-to-day activities. However, for too long companies have failed to achieve affordable and comfortable smart glasses for everyday use. One by one companies have announced their shut down like ODG, DAQRI, despite millions of dollars of investments. The only one seems to survive is Microsoft’s Hololens, but we can barely say it is for everyday use due to its size and heaviness.
But now, there’s a new buzz around the market; Apple AR Glasses. Apple for sure took their steps carefully and didn’t rush into the smart glasses market before they observed their competition and market adaptation. The more they wait, the bigger our expectations get. And with 19 different prototypes, they claim to have, we cannot be wrong to expect big.
Smart glasses by definition are programmed to add information alongside or to what the wearer sees. And Apple’s smart glasses are expected to synchronize with the user’s iPhone to display things such as texts, emails, maps, and games over the user’s field of vision. A further rumor says that Apple smart glasses won’t need prescription lenses, as the smart glasses will automatically adjust for people with poor eyesight using an “optical subassembly”. Now that is a futuristic technology we all do need.
If all said and rumored to be true, we are at the edge of a new transformed society where smart glasses are the next smartphones we see on everyone. We will not even be sure if the person we are sitting across the coffee table is actually paying attention to what we are saying or just reading their emails while looking directly at us.
